TO LEADERS IN HEALTHCARE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA —

HealthCare Leaders' Association of British Columbia's Annual Fall Leadership Conference is scheduled for October 12 and 13, 2011 in Vancouver. We would like to invite you to join us for another program presenting leading experts from across the country.

LEADING TOWARDS CERTAINTY IN HEALTHCARE
OCTOBER 12 – 13, 2011
FAIRMONT WATERFRONT HOTEL, VANCOUVER

This year’s conference covers a wide range of relevant topics that focus on the key drivers and influencing factors that are shaping health system transformation. Keynote speakers and concurrent session presenters are leading-edge and thought-provoking experts in their respective fields from within BC, across Canada, and the United States.

We have asked speakers to provide a variety of perspectives, their experiences, insights and lessons learned. Our goal is that participants will be able to assess a wide range of concepts for consideration and application to their own leadership strategies, day-to-day operations and personal development.

This program continues to be unique among healthcare leadership conferences – we hope you take advantage of the opportunity to participate, and refresh and revitalize your leadership skills.

Topics include a CEO panel from BC Health Authorities, futurist Jim Bottomley who will look at how various trends combine to provide future opportunities for new and collaborative strategies across the country, Jeffrey Selberg from IHI looking at the increasing complexity and challenges to health systems, a social media panel, expert panels on transformational change including First Nations and the evolving role of patient navigators in BC. The full program is outlined on this site.

Please take a moment to review the program. Register at the Early Bird rate prior to September 15, 2011—we anticipate the conference to sell out once again this year.

We look forward to you joining us at this exciting conference as we lead healthcare innovation in British Columbia, and endeavour to promote dialogue and inspire to find solutions in challenging times.

Lead Self ... Leadership begins within
Leading any area of a dynamic service system begins with an understanding of one's own values, strengths and abilities; the demonstration of exemplary character; a commitment to self- responsibility; and an active orientation towards learning.

E

Engage Others
Leadership is the capacity to influence others to work together to achieve a common, constructive purpose. Healthcare leaders need to work with many others within the workplace to achieve high quality health services.

A

Achieve Results
Leaders are accountable for managing the resources of the organization to achieve results. This capability includes several knowledge dimensions related to the healthcare sector and management practices.

D

Develop Coalitions
The healthcare system is comprised of a myriad
of stakeholders, from individual patients
and families to communities, private sector partners, public sector governors and non-profit organizations. Leaders must be able to build effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

S

Systems Transformation
New, different and in many cases more sophisticated modes of leadership are required to address the fiscal, technological and professional opportunities that a large, integrated health system faces in the future.
